Mission: Small Business is a program created by Chase and LivingSocial that will award 12 small business a grant of $250,000 to help drive their business forward. This is a great opportunity for Wall Street Services and we need your help to reach 250 votes in order to be considered for the award. Over our nearly 30 years of operation we have survived many “downturns” and believe the current economy is the worst. This compels us to seek ways to make the job search more effective for discouraged talent. Programs we plan to implement with resources from the grant include:
“Value Vets” | Preparing and mentoring Iraq and Afghanistan veterans for financial careers. Consulting work allows people to explore finance, learn about specific opportunities, and find an area of passion. As approximately 68% of job creation occurs as a result of consultants converting to full-time employees, this is an informed route for people wishing to re-enter or start a career. Funds for training materials and stipend for financial professionals to speak to veterans will be possible. Inviting professionals from our client community as speakers will allow them to see the potential of this talent bank.
Finance Graduate Apprenticeships | Providing recent graduates a paid opportunity to work on Wall Street. We will use grant money to pay recent graduates while they work with top financial firms in internship/apprenticeships. As the candidate learns from an experienced project manager, senior accountant, financial analyst, or other financial professional the host firm will become acquainted with the apprentice and perhaps extend an offer. The apprentice will now have references and experience and can be introduced to similar firms with enhanced effectiveness.
“Ready, Set, Go” | Continuing education program for Finance Professionals. Our concern with high unemployment rate within pockets of the underserved prompt us to begin development of a “Ready, Set, Go” program teaching relational database, Excel, and modeling skills to people who have lost jobs or been rejected due to insufficient skills. We will also include informative seminars on positions available and training needed, as many have no idea of the possible positions within a firm.
This grant will insure the continuation of our work with the community in job creation and workplace preparedness. Through this grant opportunity and support from our community we will be able to help more than 1,000 Finance Professionals in New York City.
